The Super Eagles of Nigeria are gearing up for a pivotal clash in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series against South Africa.

This fixture carries an undertone of revenge for the South African national team, as it marks both teams' first meeting since the intense 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final in Ivory Coast.

Amidst these concerns, former Super Eagles player, Tijani Babangida has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to make a swift decision on the coaching vacancy of the team.

Babangida urges NFF to make decision on Super Eagles coach

In an interview with Hot Sports, the 50-year-old emphasised the urgency for the NFF to decide on the national team's coaching vacancy swiftly.

"It's concerning because after defeating South Africa in the AFCON semi-finals, they promised to retaliate in Johannesburg and in our upcoming match in Lagos. We're facing coaching issues that the NFF must address promptly so the new coach can start building the team before it's too late."

Reflecting on the upcoming clash with Bafana Bafana, the former Ajax player added:

"The match against South Africa will be tough, as football has evolved. Even Benin has the potential to surprise us. We must approach it positively because we have the talent and ability. As Super Eagles, as Nigerians, we must convey this to the players, and they are aware of the task at hand."

Fans and stakeholders eagerly await the NFF's appointment of a coach for the Super Eagles ahead of this crucial fixture.

NFF make new decision on Amunike

Sports Brief in another report stated the NFF have made a new decision regarding Emmanuel Amunike amid the Super Eagles vacancy.

The Nigeria national team are set to be appointed a new manager before the June international window.

The former Barcelona winger was largely rumoured to be the favourite candidate to land the role.
