Manchester United centre-back, Harry Maguire, has made Premier League history with his goal against Sheffield United on April 24.

The England international was among the goal-scorers as United survived a scare against the relegation-bound side on Wednesday night at Old Trafford.

Jayden Bogle opened the scoring for the visitors in the 35th minute from an Andre Onana error before Maguire equalised on the stroke of the first half.

Ben Brereton Diaz went on to draw The Blades level shortly after the break, but Bruno Fernandes scored a sensational brace to save United from an embarrassing situation.

Rasmus Hojlund capped off the hosts' win with a fine finish five minutes to time as Erik ten Hag's charges stormed to a 4-2 win.

Maguire makes Premier League history

While Fernandes was the talking point after a sensational display, it has emerged that Maguire also had a special night after scoring a record-breaking goal.

According to SPORTbible, the centre-back's equaliser against visitors broke the record for the most goals scored in a 20-team Premier League campaign (1,085).

Only 1,084 goals were scored last season, with the 2018/19, 2021/22, and 2011/12 campaigns making up the top five for the most strikes across the board.

With a few matches still yet to be played before this season comes to a conclusion, more goals are expected to be scored.

Meanwhile, Maguire will be keen to continue with his impressive form to increase his chances of keeping his place in the England squad for the Euros.

Why Maguire was not sent off vs Fulham

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Maguire escaping a red card during United's Premier League clash against Fulham after his reckless challenge.

The Red Devils welcomed Marco Silva to Old Trafford as they looked to make it five top flight wins in a row for the first time with ten Hag in charge.
