Former Real Madrid boss, Fabio Capello, has given his perspective on potential striker targets for AC Milan.

Victor Boniface of Bayer Leverkusen and Joshua Zirkzee of Bologna have been linked with moves away from their clubs this summer.

Zirkzee, a promising Dutch-Nigerian star, and Boniface, who has impressed in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen, have both reportedly drawn interest from the Italian club.

Capello expressed his preference for one of the two as the ideal candidate to lead the Rossoneri frontline, citing a number of attributes that would help him seamlessly integrate into the team.

"If Milan is looking for brilliance, they should go for Zirkzee. He is of high quality, he’s physically strong, and he knows Serie A. He wouldn’t need to adapt," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by Milan Posts.

In comparison, both Nigerian-heritage players showcase good goal-scoring abilities, but Boniface's standout performances in the Europa League and his role in Leverkusen's success this season give him an edge in terms of experience and achievements.

While the 23-year-old has been instrumental for Die Werkself with 11 goals and two assists in the current campaign, Zirkzee has also made a mark in Serie A with a comparable goal tally but lacks the same level of European exposure as his counterpart.

Transfer insider, Dean Jones, has hinted at Arsenal's interest in acquiring the Dutch-Nigerian, highlighting the growing attention the young striker has garnered both domestically and internationally under Thiago Motta's tutelage.

"There is interest in him from Italian clubs that is going to prove tempting for him, but Arsenal are very interested and at £45 million, we're talking about a player that is half the price of someone like [Viktor] Gyokeres," he said, as reported by GiveMeSport.

Circumstances that would see Zirkzee represent Nigeria

Sports Brief also previously reported that Zirkzee wants to play for Nigeria but has also outlined the specific circumstances that would see him choose to represent the Super Eagles.

Born in the Netherlands to a Dutch father and a Nigerian mother, the Bologna forward is eligible to represent either national team and admitted he would not hesitate to switch allegiances.
