Kylian Mbappe channelled his inner defender by producing a 'monstrous' sliding tackle during Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 game against Lorient.

Known primarily for his scoring prowess, the French captain demonstrated his defensive capabilities as PSG aimed to secure the league title with just four games remaining.

After sitting out PSG's previous victory against Olympique Lyon, Coach Luis Enrique reinstated Mbappe into the starting lineup for the clash against relegation-threatened Lorient.

Eurosport reports that the 25-year-old justified his inclusion by adding to his impressive goal tally in Ligue 1, netting his 25th goal of the season in characteristic fashion.

According to GOAL, he later teed up Ousmane Dembele for PSG's third before personally notching his brace to put the Parisians on the brink of winning the 2023–24 Ligue 1 title.

However, it was his defensive contribution that garnered attention during the match. Often criticised for his perceived lack of defensive involvement, Mbappe seized the opportunity to debunk this notion.

Mbappe produces 'insane' sliding tackle

In a widely circulated video on social media, spotted by Sports Brief, the 2018 World Cup winner showcased his determination and commitment by tracking back with vigour to thwart a Lorient attack.

Despite his opponent attempting to evade him, Mbappe executed a perfectly timed sliding tackle akin to that of an elite defender, effectively halting the opposition's advance.

Mbappe produces stunning assist with 'crazy' dribble

During the same game, the Frenchman showcased his exceptional abilities with what could be considered the most visually stunning assist of the season during PSG's Ligue 1 encounter with Lorient, as reported by Sports Brief.

Displaying remarkable skill, Mbappe elegantly bypassed Nathaniel Adjei with a mesmerising dribble, deftly controlling the ball with quick touches before slipping it through the defender's legs.

With his marker outmanoeuvred, the 2018 World Cup winner surged into the box and delivered a perfectly weighted pass to Ousmane Dembele, who calmly converted the opportunity into a goal.

Does Mbappe stand a chance of winning the Ballon d'Or?

Earlier, Sports Brief highlighted Kylian Mbappe as a frontrunner for the 2024 Ballon d'Or, provided he meets certain conditions.

As 1998 World Cup winner Marcel Desailly suggests, Mbappe's aspirations of claiming the Ballon d'Or this year hinge on triumphing in the Champions League and delivering exceptional performances at the Euros.
