Robin van Persie is poised to take up his first ever managerial job, as he is a strong favourite to take over at Eredivisie side Heerenveen.
The former Arsenal and Manchester United man currently works at his former club Feyenoord, where he is the head coach of the club’s academy.
If a report by Dutch outlet AD is anything to go by, the 40-year-old could soon strike a deal with Heerenveen, who are 10th in the Dutch top flight.
The retired striker reportedly impressed in his interview, and the Dutch club, who are currently 10th in the Eredivisie, are now prepared to let go of the current gaffer Kees van Wonderen.

Van Persie’s coaching journey
After calling it quits in his professional football career, Van Persie immediately embarked on a mission to become a top manager.
In 2020, he joined D. Advocaat at his former club Feyenoord as he was handed an unofficial role of training the club’s strikers.
A year later, in 2021, he became co-head coach at the club’s under-16 team to add to his existing role as a field coach.
In 2022, he was elevated to co-head coach of the club’s under-18 team, according to talkSPORT.
His credentials in football during his playing days speak for themselves as Van Persie was one of the most lethal forwards in his prime, winning the FA Cup with Arsenal in 2005.
After eight years with the Gunners, he left to join Manchester United, winning his maiden Premier League title in the 2012/2013 campaign.
