Ousmane Dembele practically plotted the downfall of his former club, Barcelona, as PSG are through to this season's semi-final of the UEFA Champions League.

The Frenchman who left the Spanish club just last summer has come back to haunt them and he was seen celebrating after pulling off a victory against his former side.

Despite winning the first leg 3-2 at the Parc des Princes, the Spanish club fell like a pack of cards right inside the Olympic Montjuic Stadium on Tuesday night.

Raphinha thought he had extended Barcelona's lead when he scored inside 12 minutes in the second leg, but Ronald Araujo received a red card which became the nemesis for the Catalan giants.

Former Barcelona star, Dembele, pulled one back in the 40th minute to make it 1-1, giving his side the lifeline ahead of the second half.

PSG came blazing from the tunnel with Vitinha scoring in the 54th minute to give his side the lead on the night. It was Dembele who was brought down in the area, masterminding a penalty for Kylian Mbappe who netted from the spot to make it 3-1 for the visitors.

With one minute left on the clock, Mbappe struck to end Barcelona's dream of a Champions League semi-final.

PSG eventually came out victors 1-4 (4-6 on aggregate), and the man leading this win? None other than Ousmane Dembele.

The Frenchman received a very hostile reception at the Olympic Montjuic Stadium, with fans burning his jersey before the game, and whistling him during the encounter.

Ousmane Dembele's African origin

Dembele was born in Vernon, in the northern region of France. His mother is Mauritanian-Senegalese from Waly Diantang, while his father is Malian.

It was gathered that his parents moved to France from Mauritania before the 2022 World Cup star was born in 1997.

He took his first footballing steps in nearby Evreux, first at ALM Evreux and then at Evreux FC 27 between the ages of 12 and 13.

In 2017, UK outlet, The Guardian, reported that his mother, Fatimata Sy, and her family migrated to France three decades ago in search of a better life before settling in Vernon.

He made his senior debut for French Ligue 1’s Rennes against Angers on 6 September 2015 and went on to score 12 goals in 26 appearances from the midfield.

Why did Ousmane Dembele leave Barcelona?

The former Borussia Dortmund star joined PSG last summer after six seasons with Barcelona.

He won three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey, and two Supercopa de Espana titles with the Catalan club. He told L'Equipe:

"I simply wanted to sign for PSG. It was more Paris that made me change my mind than not leaving Barcelona.
“Kylian did not try to convince me, I came to Paris because I love the club, it is a French club and I love it. I come from Évreux, not far from here. "

How Dembele got France's national team call-up

In August 2016, Dembele earned his first senior national team call-up for friendly matches against Italy and Belarus.

He was considered after Alexandre Lacazette and Nabil Fekir withdrew through injury.

The winger made his debut in their 3-1 win over Italy at the Stadio San Nicola, replacing Antoine Griezmann for the final 27 minutes.

He was part of the squad that finished the 2022 FIFA World Cup as runners-up where he featured in all games for Les Bleus.

Dembele has now played 46 appearances for France, scoring 6 goals in the process.

Dembele reacts to Barcelona's Champions League exit

Sports Brief earlier reported that Dembele reacted after his impactful performance against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.

Making his return to Catalonia since his move to PSG last summer, the Frenchman played a pivotal role in knocking out his former club from the competition.

Despite facing a hostile reception from his former club, the 26-year-old appeared unfazed when questioned about it.
