In an interview reported by Score Nigeria, a prominent Nigerian football official - who opted to speak anonymously - explained the NFF are yet to appoint a new coach for the Super Eagles due to a desire for a collective decision.

"The NFF president could unilaterally decide on the next coach of the Super Eagles, but he prefers a decision that involves as many stakeholders as possible," said the official.

"Since the coaching position was declared vacant, there have been daily discussions and consultations on who should fill the role. It is a meticulous process, hence the delay."

A multitude of names continue to be associated with the Super Eagles vacancy, and ongoing reports suggest that the Nigerian team could be on the verge of hiring another foreign manager, despite calls for a local coach such as interim boss, Finidi George.

Sports Brief also previously reported that Pep Guardiola's longest-serving assistant, Domenec Torrent, is the perceived Super Eagles frontrunner as the race for a new Nigeria national coach continues.

The 61-year-old, who managed Galatasaray in Turkey most recently, is said to have been selected by Nigeria's football federation over Antonio Conceicao and all other candidates competing for the coaching job.
