Spirited Man United come from one goal down to beat Aston Villa and cut Man City's lead to 10 points

Manchester United came from one goal down to beat Aston Villa in an interesting Premier League clash at Villa Park on Sunday, May 9.

The match was the first of three league fixtures United have to play in a space of five days following the postponement of their Liverpool clash.

The match against rivals Liverpool was scheduled for last Sunday but had to be pushed forward after the Red Devils fans staged protests at Old Trafford which was due to host the encounter.

The postponement has now created a fixture pile-up for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men who look to have all but secured a top-four finish.

However, the Manchester club had no problem overcoming Aston Villa away from home as they continued their fine run of form on the road.

Despite falling to Bertrand Traore's opener in the first half, Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes did enough to get the job done.

The EPL meeting was not short of drama as tension boiled in the 60th minute when Ezri Konsa and Marcus Rashford clashed before their respective teammates separated them.

United were the dominant side from the blow of the whistle, with the side's front four pressing high up the field, only for them to fall to Traore's opener in the 24th minute when the Burkinabe fired past Dean Henderson into the top corner.

The visitors almost had an immediate response as Rashford's low cross was cleared away by Tyrone Mings.

The Englishman also went close minutes before the break, but his 20-yard shot was straightforward enough for Emiliano Martinez to take care of it.

It took the intervention of Fernandes for United to draw level in the 52nd minute after the Portuguese slotted home from the spot following Douglas Luiz's challenge on Paul Pogba.

Greenwood doubled the advantage four minutes later, with the youngster firing a low shot beyond Martinez to make it 2-1.

Edinson Cavani put the game to bed in the 87th minute, surging towards the near post before heading home United's third goal.

Villa's situation went from bad to worse shortly after when Ollie Watkins was sent off following a second booking for simulation.

Man United's eventual win solidified their place in second on the log and now have a six-point advantage over third-placed Chelsea as the campaign enters its homestretch.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Bruno Fernandes has pleaded with Edinson Cavani and Paul Pogba to stay at Old Trafford beyond this summer.

Both Cavani and Pogba are facing an uncertain future at Man United, with the pair yet to renew their current deals with the club.

Cavani, who joined United on a free transfer last summer has had a bright start to life with the Red Devils but remains to be the subject of transfer speculation ahead of the transfer window.
