Diego Simeone had a heated exchange with Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, on the touchline during Atletico Madrid’s 2-1 triumph in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Atletico secured a 2-1 victory, courtesy of goals from Rodrigo De Paul and Samuel Lino in the first half, granting the hosts a halftime advantage in front of their home supporters at the Civitas Metropolitano Stadium.

Sebastien Haller added tension for the hosts by pulling one back in the 81st minute, but Atletico managed to maintain their lead, securing a potentially crucial one-goal advantage as they head to Germany.

However, one of the most notable incidents from the match was a confrontation between Simeone and Dortmund's sporting director, Kehl.

In the second half, Emre Can sustained an injury, but Atletico pressed on with the game and launched a counter-attack against the Dortmund defence, a move that apparently didn't sit well with the visitors.

In a video shared on social media, Simeone and Kehl were observed facing off, with the Atletico boss pushing his counterpart twice in the chest before they were pulled apart.

Kehl said after the match via Metro Sports:

"We shouldn't talk about the scene, but about what happened on the pitch. We displayed a strong performance in the second half."

Atletico Madrid beat Dortmund in Spain

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Atletico Madrid earned a 2-1 Champions League quarter-finals against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, enduring a late surge from the visiting team.

Rodrigo De Paul and Samuel Lino's first-half goals gave Simeone's team a significant lead, but Haller's goal for the German side sets up an intriguing return leg in Dortmund next week.

Fifth in the Bundesliga, Terzic's team surged after a slow start, striking the woodwork twice late in a match where security was tightened due to threats from the Islamic State (IS) against stadiums hosting quarter-final matches.
