Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has disclosed that he rejected the opportunity to coach one of the national teams of teams of Ghana.

The legendary striker was reportedly offered the job as a coach for one of the Ghana youth teams after acquiring his UEFA B coaching license.

Gyan is yet to begin his coaching career despite seeking education as a manager from the Welsh Football Association.

“The timing was wrong but let us see what happens in the future. I won’t entirely rule out the possibility to coach because we don’t know what the future holds,” Gyan told Asempa FM, as quoted by Pulse.

The country's all-time top scorer announced his retirement from football last year after almost three seasons without playing football, as reported by the BBC.

He last played for Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities in 2020 and missed the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Gyan is also Africa's top scorer at the World Cup with six goals from three competitions.

The former Sunderland striker was recently named as the Sports Committee chairman of the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia campaign team.

Gyan blames inexperience for Brazil defeat

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Legendary Ghanaian forward, Asamoah Gyan rejected claims the Black Stars were totally beaten by Brazil during the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Ghana were making their first appearance at the global showpiece, defying all odds to beat Czech and the United States to reach the Round of 16, where they faced then-world champions Brazil.

The Black Stars suffered a 3-0 defeat and were eliminated after the first round, with Ronaldo da Lima, Andriano and Ze Roberto scoring for the South Americans.

Gyan named in Bawumia's campaign team

Sports Brief also reported that the former captain of the Ghana national team, Asamoah Gyan was named in the manifesto team of Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2024 general election.

Gyan will chair the sub-committee on youth and sports as Dr Bawumia develops a manifesto ahead of December's polls.

The ex-Black Stars captain is expected to come up with plans that will lead to the revival of sports in the West African nation, following Ghana's recent poor performance.
