The standoff between the Cameroonian Football Federation led by Samuel Eto'o and the country's Sports Ministry continues after the former Barcelona forward missed the unveiling of Marc Brys as the new coach.

Cameroon's Sports Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi unveiled Belgium trainer Brys as the new Indomitable Lions coach on Monday in Yaoundé.

Eto'o missed the event due to the federation's disagreement with the choice of coach for the national team.

According to 13 Football via a letter from FECAFOOT, Eto'o had suggested former World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro, two-time AFCON winner Herve Renard and recent Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro for the job.

The role had become vacant following the departure of Rigobert Song after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, with Cameroon reaching the last 16.

The government of Cameroon took over the role of appointing a new coach in collaboration with the federation.

However, FECAFOOT were surprised after they received reports that 61-year-old Brys has been appointed the new gaffer.

He signed a two-and-a-half year deal as coach of the five-time African champions, as reported by Allez Les Lions.

Eto'o misses Marc Brys' unveiling

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that President of the Cameroonian Football Federation, Samuel Eto'o was not present at the unveiling of new Indomitable Lions coach, Marc Brys.

The Belgium trainer arrived in Yaoundé on Monday to sign a two-and-a-half year contract with the five-time African champions.

At a brief meeting held by Cameroon's Sports Minister, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, Brys and his technical team were tasked to qualify the country to the 2026 World Cup and also ensure a successful Africa Cup of Nations in 2025.

Eto'o rejects Marc Brys' appointment

Sports Brief also reported that the Samuel Eto'o-led Cameroon federation rejected the appointment of Belgian trainer Marc Brys as the new coach of the Indomitable Lions.

Brys was announced as the new trainer of Cameroon on Tuesday in a statement released by the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, with Joachim Mununga and Giannis Xilouris as his assistants.

The former Oud Hervelee Leuven coach is expected to replace Rigobert Song, who left in February following the expiration of his contract.
