  • Lionel Messi was called a possessed dwarf after their clash against Monterrey
  • Messi did not feature in that game but confronted the officials afterwards
  • Monterrey's coach, Nico Sanchez. has since apologised for his comments

A tunnel conversation to the fiery end of Inter Miami's game against Monterrey last week has surfaced online with Lionel Messi in the square of it.

Messi did not play the game despite being spotted in training a couple of hours earlier. His side welcomed the Mexican side at the Chase Stadium for the first leg of the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

In his absence, the Herons lost 2-1, leaving their work all cut out in the second leg on April 11 at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer.

After the game, Messi joined Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, and head coach Tata Martino in confronting the match officials and Monterrey's coach, Fernando Ortiz. Ortiz had claimed before the game that Inter Miami would receive favourable decisions if Messi played.

Messi is a possessed dwarf

Monterrey's assistant coach Nico Sanchez was heard saying:

"The dwarf was possessed; he had the face of the devil. He put his fist next to my face and said: 'Who do you think you are?'" as quoted by FOX Sports MX.

Sanchez also spoke about his run-in with Martin:

"And Tata Martino, what a poor dummy, I had him in front of me telling me: 'Fool, you going to cry? Fool, are you going to cry?' What a dummy!"

Monterrey coach apologises

Sanchez has since apologised for his remarks in the leaked audio, saying he was only trying to defend his team.

"Since I do not know the Inter coach, Gerardo Martino, and I disrespectfully referred to him, and I apologise. I am as Argentine as all of them and will always defend my club. I'm here to show my face and take charge," as quoted by the Guardian.

Messi is expected to feature in the second leg, having returned to action over the weekend in their two-all draw against Colorado Rapids.

Messi beautifully protects young girl

In the game, Messi was praised after he protected a young girl from stewards.

Sports Brief reported that the girl had invaded the pitch in a bid to get a selfie with the Argentine star, but the stewards tried to thwart her efforts.

Messi obliged to her request before appearing to ask her to run away after taking the picture.
