Former head coach of Ghana's Black Stars, Charles Kwabla Akonnor, is confident Dreams FC can win the CAF Confederation Cup following their impressive run in the competition.

The Ghana FA Cup holders reached the semi-final of the continental championship in their first appearance at the tournament.

Dreams eliminated Malian giants Stade Malien in the quarter-final to set up a clash with Egyptian giants Zamalek for a place in the final.

Akonnor applauded the bravery of the Dawu-based club and called for Ghanaians to give them the support needed to bring glory to the country.

“Dreams FC are succeeding and have brought pride to Ghana. How fearlessly and confidently they play is something to behold,” Akonnor told Akoma FM, as quoted by Pulse.
“I think they will win the competition the way they are going. We must all lend them our support. We should all be proud of the players for demonstrating soundness and unity, and we should support them to reach the finals and possibly win the championship.”

Dreams FC will engage the North Africans on the weekend of April 18 to 20 in the first leg of their semi-final clash, as reported by CAF Online.

They became the first Ghanaian team to reach the semi-final of the CAF club competition since Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko in 2004, per Asaase Radio.

Dreams players hit Kudus' celebration

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Dreams players hit the Mohammed Kudus iconic celebration during the 4-0 thrashing of Angolan outfit Academica do Lobito.

The victory in Kumasi saw the Ghanaian FA Cup winners move to top of the table in Group C of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Dreams FC went on to qualify for the quarter-finals where they faced Malian outfit Stade Malien.

Dreams to face Zamalek in CAF CC

Sports Brief also reported that Ghanaian club Dreams FC will face Egyptian giants Zamalek in the semi-final of the CAF Confederation Cup after beating Stade Malien.

Dreams progressed to the last four stage after securing a 3-2 aggregate win over the Bamako-based club.

Meanwhile, USM Alger will engage RS Berkane in the second semi-final game of the competition.
