  • He had great success during his time at UAE side Al Ain
  • The Ghana legend says he enjoyed his football at the club

Asamoah Gyan had a great career in football despite not playing for the big clubs in Europe.

His journey took him to Italy, England, France, and the United Arab Emirates.

The Ghana legend says he loved playing at Al Ain in the UAE compared to other countries where he played.

Gyan's transfer to Al Ain from Sunderland in 2011 baffled many Ghanaians, but the striker loved playing in the Middle Eastern country.

"People thought my career was over when I went there. But when I came to the national team, my international record was much better than it was in Europe," via Ghana Soccernet.

The former Sunderland star enjoyed his football in the UAE. He bagged 105 goals in 112 appearances at the club, the most he's ever scored for one club, per Transfermarkt.

He disclosed some benefits he got when he played in the country.

"They did everything for me. They put you in a house, fully furnished, a nine-bedroom house; they will say go and play football; score for us."

The retired footballer is remembered for his infamous penalty miss at the 2010 World Cup against Uruguay. He remains Ghana's all-time top scorer with 51 goals.

Gyan on Kudus and Addo

Sports Brief earlier reported on Gyan advising Otto Addo to build the Black Stars squad around West Ham star Mohammed Kudus.

Kudus is Ghana's best player and is having a great first season in the Premier League. The forward has scored 16 goals in 40 appearances this season.

Kudus was part of the Black Stars squad that was knocked out of the 2023 AFCON in the group stages.

Gyan on 2010 World Cup penalty miss

Sports Brief also reported on Gyan recalling the penalty miss at the 2010 World Cup against Uruguay.

He had the chance to send the Black Stars to the semi-final but failed to convert a penalty late in the game. Ghana would lose the tie on penalties.
