  • Chelsea beat Manchester United 4-3 in a chaotic game at Stamford Bridge
  • Cole Palmer scored two late goals to spare Mauricio Pochettino's blushes
  • Mason Mount returned to his former club for the first time since his exit

Mason Mount did not receive the type of welcome he expected on his first return to Stamford Bridge since leaving his boyhood club and joining Manchester United last summer.

The two teams were involved in one of the most chaotic Premier League games of the season, and the Londoners took all three points in the end after an amazing comeback.

Cole Palmer netted a hat-trick, including two penalties and a late winner, to win it for the Blues after they surrendered a two-goal lead within 20 minutes of the first half.

The win and the nature of the top flight game will certainly have boosted the confidence of the Chelsea players, who still have a chance to end their season on a fair note.

Mount clashes with Fernandez

Mount started the game off the bench on his first visit to Stamford Bridge since his £60 million move to Old Trafford last summer as part of the massive clearout in London.

He came on as a second-half substitute to replace Argentine winger, Alejandro Garnacho, who scored twice to put United 3-2 ahead on either side of Bruno Fernandes' header.

Mount's contribution was kicking the ball around to waste time, which got on the nerves of his former teammate, Enzo Fernandez. The two locked heads and were separated by the referee.

The 2021 UEFA Champions League winner was also booed by the home fans who used to adore him during his 18-year stay at the club.

United will be ruing their missed chance to close the gap on fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, while Chelsea have a chance to move out of the 10th spot with a game in hand over Brighton and Hove Albion.

Cole Palmer blasts Chelsea teammates

Sports Brief previously reported on Cole Palmer blasting his Chelsea teammates after their 2-2 draw against Burnley at Stamford Bridge in the Blues' first game back after the international break.

The 21-year-old scored two goals but defensive lapses ensured a 10-man Clarets equalised each time. The United match could have ended similarly, but he took matters into his own hands.
