  • However, the shirt was very unpopular with some United supporters
  • The Red Devils last wore the green kit last weekend against Brentford

Manchester United will reportedly not don their unpopular green away kit for the remainder of the season.

United introduced the away kit at the start of the ongoing season to celebrate the club’s storied past.

According to Goal, the kit featuring night-green and white stripes was a nod back to the club's early years.

The content behind the jersey was to revive the iconic vertical stripes last seen on a United kit two decades ago.

The kit also featured maroon-red lines, reminiscent of the city's distinctive red bricks and architecture.

However, despite the seemingly brilliant idea behind the kit, it was quite unpopular among a number of United fans.

Some of the supporters felt it did not reflect the identity of the Manchester club, while others contended that the shirt was a bad omen.

Why United won't wear infamous kit again

However, the Red Devils may have sported the controversial kit for the last time, with SPORTbible reporting that Erik ten Hag's men are unlikely to don it again for the rest of the season.

This is because United's remaining away fixtures this season will be against teams whose home kits will not clash with their iconic red shirts.

Matches against Chelsea and Brighton in the Premier League and Coventry City in the FA Cup are among those the Old Trafford dwellers are set to wear their home kit.

For the away fixtures against Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, United are expected to wear their white third kit.

This is because the green away kit would be too similar to the home teams.

Ronaldo's iconic shirt given to another player

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Portugal's decision to hand Cristiano Ronaldo's iconic No. 7 shirt to Sporting Braga ace, Bruma, sparking many reactions.

The Al-Nassr star has donned Portugal's No. 7 shirt for the better part of his career.
