  • Aliou Cisse hopes to lift the Africa Cup of Nations trophy once more in 2025 with Senegal
  • The Lions of Teranga boss believes the nation's golden generation can win the World Cup
  • Jose Mourinho also has a lot of faith in African teams and predicted big things for Senegal

Africa is still waiting for its first-ever winner of the FIFA World Cup, but many feel it’s just a matter of time.

With Morocco making it to the semi-finals of the 2022 edition in Qatar, there is belief that African sides can emulate that success and potentially take it one step further.

Aliou Cisse has predicted that Senegal can go all the way and win the FIFA World Cup.

Senegal head coach, Aliou Cissé, has now shared his thoughts on the potential of his squad, saying that they could go all the way and win the World Cup, Get Football News France reported.

“I know Senegal are capable of winning the World Cup in the future. That is clear. With this generation that are coming of age, they are capable of doing big things,” he said.

Cissé wants Senegal to win AFCON

While he has faith that the nation can win the big one, he also stated that he would rather have the Lions of Teranga win the Africa Cup of Nations again in 2025 than go deep in the World Cup.

Senegal won their first AFCON title in 2021 under the stewardship of the 48-year-old and then were dumped out of the 2023 tournament by Ivory Coast at the Round of 16 stage.

Mourinho has faith in African teams

Cissé isn’t the only one with faith in African nations on the world stage.

Former Roma boss Jose Mourinho previously tipped Senegal to go far in the 2018 edition of the tournament, The Mirror reported.

He also advocated for FIFA to stop African players from representing European nations so that the continent could have some of their best stars available for major tournaments.

Cisse celebrates new milestone with Senegal

Sports Brief previously reported how Senegal's coach, Cisse, had reached a new milestone with the national team.

The Teranga Lions boss led the team to victory over Benin and marked his 100th game in charge of the team in the process.

Speaking after the game, Cisse admitted that he was surprised that he had been in charge of the national team for so long.
