The Super Falcons of Nigeria are on a mission to secure their ticket to the 2024 Olympics in Paris, starting with a crucial clash against South Africa.

With the stakes high and the fixture promising to be a thrilling encounter, coach of the Nigerian team, Randy Waldrum, is confident in his side's ability to secure qualification for the showpiece event in Paris.

Coach Waldrum speaks ahead of South Africa clash

In an interview with NFF TV ahead of the crucial match, the 67-year-old coach expressed confidence in his team's ability to secure victory against Bayana Bayana.

"We're focused on reaching Paris. The players understand the challenge ahead. It's time to qualify for the Olympics after a long time," Waldrum said.

Highlighting the quality of his players, he added,

"This team is exceptional. The talent and depth we saw in Australia [FIFA Women’s World Cup] against some of the best teams in the world make us believe we can continue to progress and become a major force on the world stage. This team is special, and we have the potential to be among the best teams in the world."

The upcoming double-header clash between these two African powerhouses is even more intense, considering the Super Falcons have not secured a victory against Bayana Bayana since their penalty shootout win at the 2018 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final in Ghana.

Guardiola’s assistant favourite for the Super Eagles role

In news related to the men's national team, Sports Brief reported that Pep Guardiola's longest-serving assistant, Domenec Torrent is listed among top candidates to take over coaching Nigeria.

The 61-year-old, who recently managed Galatasaray in Turkey, is reported to have been chosen by the football federation ahead of Antonio Conceicao and other candidates vying for the role.
