  • Kaylin Swart says Nigeria cannot stop their quest to qualify for the Olympics
  • The Super Falcons will lock horns with South Africa in a two-legged qualifier
  • Nigeria will host Banyana Banyana in the first leg on Friday, April 5 in Abuja

Nigeria’s Olympic qualifiers against South Africa are one of the highly anticipated games in 2024 in the women’s calendar because of the significance of the fixture for both countries.

Since their last appearance at the 2016 Rio Games, Banyana Banyana have failed to qualify for the Olympics and the current set wants to end that trend but they have to do it against arch-rivals Super Falcons.

According to Complete Sports, South Africa goalkeeper, Kaylin Swart, insists the Super Falcons are a formidable team but they cannot stop their quest to qualify for the Olympics this time.

“Playing against Nigeria is always a great battle, we are familiar with each other only because we have had battles for many years up until now and this one is no different.
“I have full confidence in my teammates, and I think if we just stick to our strengths as a team and play for each other, we will get the results we need.”

Swart is part of the South Africa squad that arrived in Abuja, Nigeria for the first leg of their final-round qualifier against the Super Falcons on April 5, while Banyana Banyana will host the reverse fixture in Pretoria next week Tuesday.

Banyana commence training in Abuja

Meanwhile, South Africa's Banyana Banyana has begun training in Abuja ahead of their highly anticipated Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualifier versus Nigeria, BSN Sports reports.

Coach Desiree Ellis's team arrived in Nigeria in a confident mood on Sunday and has already kicked off preparations for the crunch game against their long-time nemesis.

Banyana Banyana believe they can get a positive result against the Super Falcons in Abuja and seal qualification for the Olympic Games in Pretoria when they host the return leg next week.

Plumptre ruled out of Banyana clash

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Super Falcons key defender Ashleigh Plumptre has been ruled out of the Olympic qualifiers against South Africa on Friday.

The Saudi Arabia-based defender suffered a knock and will not be in the squad that will take on the African reigning queens, Banyana Banyana.
