The Arsenal duo of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes made an interesting pick when asked about the most skilful player in the Premier League.

Saliba and Gabriel have been gems for Mikel Arteta this season, striking up a brilliant partnership at the heart of the Gunners’ defence.

They were at it again on Sunday, March 31, expertly keeping Manchester City from scoring at the Etihad for the first time since 2021.

The pair know a thing or two about attacking threats from opponents, and this was evident in a recent quick-fire session with Sky Sports when they were asked to name the most skilful player in the English top flight.

When it comes to skill, it takes a certain kind of player to fit the bill, and there are quite a few in the Premier League.

Skills have more to do with overall trickery, flair and the ability to beat a man in a one-on-one situation, and some wingers in the Premier League can do this seamlessly.

From Jack Grealish to Bukayo Saka to Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma, all these players have one thing in common: they are very skilful.

However, Saliba and Gabriel rate Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku as the most skillful in the league, and they had valid reasons for their picks.

Asked why he picked Doku, Gabriel said, “Because when watching, it’s like [makes sounds to indicate he beats players at will].”

Saliba shared the same sentiments, adding, “[Jeremy] Doku because if you watch the game, I think he’s the best one against one.”

Notably, Saliba has tussled with Doku in the past, as the two faced each other in the French Ligue 1 when the Belgian winger was a Rennes player.

Since signing for Man City last summer, Doku made an explosive start to life at the Etihad and was seen as a like-for-like replacement for Riyad Mahrez, who moved to the Saudi Pro League.
