His knee injury could not have come at a worse time having already missed out part of the preseason tour on Africa Cup of Nations duty, and beede to be his sharpest to fight for his place.

An injury plagued season saw Wanyama forfeit his place in the squad and become Pochettino's back-up midfielder, as opposed to the central role he played in Spur's 2016/17 squad.
Having fallen out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino last season, the defensive midfielder id likely to miss out on starting role in 2019/20.
