Kenyan football has experienced dark days for most of the 21st century, but there's hope that things are starting to change.

The East African nation did not play at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to a FIFA ban. Despite missing out on the continental showpiece, Harambee Stars have made a terrific start to 2024.

They beat Malawi 4-0 in the other game in the tournament, before dispatching Zimbabwe, per Capital Sports.

Muguna exclusively told Sports Brief that winning the four-nations title was great.

"It feels good because everybody dreams about playing for the national team. It is important because it was a long time before the team won a trophy. It was a good feeling."

Kenya's last trophy was the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) in 2017. They defeated Zanzibar on penalties after an entertaining 2-2 draw in regulation time, per FIFA.

Engin Firat's side face 2023 AFCON champions Ivory Coast and Burundi in a World Cup qualifier in June.

Olung batgs hat-trick for Harambee Stars

Sports Brief earlier reported on Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga scoring a hat-trick to win the four-national title for Kenya.

After Kenya went down 1-0, Olunga produced a magnificent performance to win the game for his country.

The Al Duhail striker scored late in the first half, in the 63rd minute, before completing a perfect hat-trick in the 87th minute.

Mugna talks career, football inspiration

Sports Brief also reported on Muguna's talking about his journey in football and his inspiration.

Muguna's football journey started in Sondu, western Kenya. He went on to play for giants Gor Mahia and was named the 2016 Player of the Year in the Kenya Premier League. He also played in Tanzania for AZAM.
