Scottish national Willie Kirk has been stripped off his role as manager at Leicester City Women’s team for allegedly having an affair with one of his players.

Since Kirk was slapped with a suspension by the club earlier in March, assistant Jennifer Foster and first-team coach Stephen Kirby have been leading the team.

In that period, the team managed to secure a 2-0 win against Liverpool at the Women’s FA Cup, aiding them to get to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Unfortunately, they have had a lousy stint in the Women’s Super League, losing in their last two games against Tottenham and Brighton.

Leicester announce sacking of Kirk

The club have since issued an elaborate statement stating that they are no longer working with Kirk, following an extensive internal disciplinary process.

"Leicester City Football Club can confirm that Willie Kirk has been dismissed from his position as LCFC Women Manager,” the statement read, per Metro UK.

According to the club, Kirk went against the code of conduct adopted by the club and that they no longer needed his services.

"Following an extensive internal disciplinary process and respecting the Club’s obligations to individual privacy, Willie was determined to have breached the team’s code of conduct to a degree that makes his position untenable,” the club said.

The code of conduct was aimed at achieving good performance and ensuring that everyone who is part of the team is dedicated to protecting the professionalism in women's football.

As the club now holds the tough responsibility of finding the right coach for the team, Foster and Kirby will continue to be in charge.

Kirk, who joined Leicester as director of football in 2022, becomes the recent coach to lose his job, two months after Sheffield United women’s team called it quits with manager Jonathan Morgan.

In 2006, Kirk kicked off his coaching career at Scottish Livingstone as an assistant coach.

The 45-year-old spent four years as Hibernian under 17 coach, before moving to Bristol City to offer his services in women’s football.

Kirk also worked as an assistant to Casey Stoney at Manchester United before moving to Leicester City in July as director of football.
