At the time, the club's fans also slated Wanyama for blame despite the Harambee Stars skipper being limited just 28 minutes of action.

Christian Eriksen and Lucas Moura however fluffed their efforts from the spot as the home side marched to a 4-3 win to qualify for the next round of the tournament.

Wanyama, who has been facing an uncertain future at Spurs was handed full minutes in that particular match, but the club's fans were unimpressed with his display.

A section of them asserted the Kenyan midfielder is already finished and should be dropped from the squad, with others suggesting Spurs should get rid of the 28-year-old altogether.

One posted: "What else is there so say about that performance against Colchester tonight? It was just embarrassing, it seems like Poch can't motivate the players anymore, Wanyama looked lost again."

Another noted: "I’d honestly drop Eriksen & Wanyama, out of all Matchday squads until January. Let them both rot in the u23’s."

A third said: "Wanyama even looks out of his depth vs League two opposition. It makes Poch's decision on to bring him on for 25+ minutes on Saturday even more puzzling."

While a fourth concluded: "Wanyama is well and truly finished, needs to be sold ASAP."
