  • William Saliba has played a key part in Arsenal's Premier League title charge
  • However, the defender has hardly been involved in international assignment
  • Saliba has struggled for game time in the France team under Didier Deschamps

France head coach, Didier Deschamps, has disclosed why he does not involve Arsenal defender, William Saliba, during critical matches.

Saliba, who has played 28 games for Arsenal, scoring two goals and bagging one assist, is one of the solid pillars, as the Gunners aim at clinching the Premier League title this season.

His injury last season proved crucial as the Gunners tailed off in the title race, eventually finishing behind Manchester City.

According to SPORTBible, despite Saliba playing a significant role at the Emirates, Deschamps seems not to have a soft spot for the 23-year-old, who has played 12 times for the France national team, where he first played in 2022.

Why Deschamps does not play Saliba

During a press before their friendly fixture against Chile, Deschamps put it clear that the hierarchy at the national team does not give Saliba an opportunity to play for them.

"For France, he has limited game time, but when he plays, that hasn’t necessarily gone well. The hierarchy doesn’t favour him at the moment, but he is here," Deschamps said via GetFootballNews.

However, the 55-year-old appreciated the fact that Saliba is having a great season with Arsenal in the Premier League.

"He is having a good season, but he also does things that I don’t like so much," he said.

"William has had less game time, so that doesn't allow him to be very calm," he added.

Benjamin Pavard and Dayot Upamecano are all currently ahead of Saliba in the pecking order.

The duo was part of Deschamps's side that lost 2-0 to Germany during their friendly match last weekend.
