  • African stars have taken the Saudi Pro League by storm
  • Sadio Mane and Odion Ighalo are among the top scorers
  • The SPL resumes on Friday after the international break

The Saudi Pro League has become home to many African players in recent times, with the likes of former African Player of the Year, Sadio Mane, and Riyad Mahrez moving to the Gulf country.

These players have played significant roles for their clubs despite most of them only arriving at their teams in the last summer transfer window.

The player exodus to Saudi Arabia is backed by the country's desire to grow the sport after making the biggest move of bringing Cristiano Ronaldo to the Middle East.

Since then, there have been several big-name moves with the likes of Karim Benzema and N'Golo Kante playing for Al-Ittihad while Sevilla and Barcelona legend, Ivan Rakitic, joined Al-Shabab in the winter transfer window.

Sports Brief looks at the top 10 African players with the most goals in the 2023/24 Saudi Pro League.

Top 10 Africans with most SPL goals

Abderrazak Hamdallah

Top of the list is Moroccan forward, Abderrazak Hamdallah. Despite playing in the same team as Karim Benzema, it is the Atlas Lions striker who is leading the way for Al-Ittihad with 17 goals in 19 matches, per Wiw Sport.

Georges-Kevin N'Koudou

The Cameroonian is enjoying an outstanding season with Damac FC. N'Koudou has netted 15 goals in 22 matches, making him the second-top African scorer in the league.

Odion Ighalo

The Nigerian, who joined Al Wehda at the start of the season, is very familiar with the league, having played for Al-Hilal in the past. This season, Ighalo has scored 12 goals in 22 matches.

Bernard Mensah

The Ghanaian is known for his ball-playing ability but the midfielder has been in prolific goal-scoring form since moving to Saudi Arabia. He has scored 11 goals in 20 matches for Al-Tai.

Henry Onyekuru

Another Nigerian on the list is Henry Onyekuru. The former Galatasaray forward has been the main man for Al-Feiha, scoring 10 goals in 24 matches.

Fashion Sakala Junior

The Zambian plays alongside Onyekuru at Al-Feiha. Just like his teammate, Sakala has netted 10 goals in 24 matches in the Saudi Pro League.

Karim El Berkaoui

El Berkaoui is the second Moroccan on the list, having nine goals in 23 matches for Al-Raed this season. The 27-year-old is a legendary figure at Al-Raed, having played a key role since joining the club in 2020.

Sadio Mane

With Ronaldo being the star at Al-Nassr, Mane has been more of a supporting cast at the club. However, he has still managed to score nine goals in 23 matches, per Transfermarkt.

Riyad Mahrez

A big-name arrival in Saudi Arabia, Mahrez has not disappointed Al-Ahli at all, having been one of the top assisters in the league. He also has nine goals in 24 matches this season.

Mourad Batna

The third Moroccan to appear on the list, Batna has netted eight times for Al-Fateh this season, making him 10th on the list of African player with the most goals in the Saudi Pro League.

Ronaldo reaches new milestone in SPL

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ronaldo scored his 50th Al-Nassr goal with a decisive penalty strike in their 1-0 triumph away against Al-Ahli.

The veteran forward showcased his trademark composure, converting from the spot in the 68th minute to secure victory for the Knights of Najd.

The top-flight league win marked Al-Nassr's return to winning ways following a streak of defeats across all competitions in the campaign.
