  • Saad Samir has refuted rumours of players wanting Pitso Mosimane ousted
  • The former Al Ahly defender said the claims were untrue and did not make sense
  • Mosimane won 2 CAF Champions League titles, 2 CAF Super Cups, and an Egyptian Cup

Former Al Ahly defender, Saad Samir, has dismissed rumours suggesting that players wanted Pitso Mosimane to leave.

During Mosimane's tenure with the Egyptian giants, he secured two CAF Champions League titles, two CAF Super Cups, and one Egyptian Cup.

Upon his arrival, the club had endured a seven-year drought without a Champions League trophy, and his leadership saw the team clinch back-to-back titles.

Speculation surfaced in Egyptian media alleging that players expressed dissatisfaction with Mosimane to the club's leadership, including President Mahmoud El Khatib, prompting discussions about parting ways. However, Samir, who had limited playing time under the South African manager, rubbished these claims.

“This did not happen. There is a lot of news about the club every day that is not true. What will we tell the club management? It certainly doesn’t make sense,” said Samir on Sport FM radio, as quoted by iDiski Times.

Mosimane now at Abha Club

Mosimane, known for his previous triumphs with Mamelodi Sundowns, embarked on a short-term contract with Abha Club in Saudi Arabia, intending to steer them away from relegation and secure their top-flight status.

With the club currently 17th in the Saudi Pro League, their upcoming clash against Al Riyadh on March 30 offers another opportunity to secure survival.

Despite long-standing interest from Kaizer Chiefs to secure Mosimane's services, he has expressed a desire to continue coaching in Saudi Arabia. Mosimane's agent, Moira Tlhagale, disclosed to Sunday World that the 57-year-old intends to pursue coaching opportunities in the Middle East.

How Mosimane secured four-month Abha deal

Sports Brief recently broke down how Mosimane secured a four-month contract with Abha.

His agent, Moira Tlhagale, spoke about the negotiation process, saying the Saudi side initially offered an 18-month contract.

She highlighted an attraction to the evolving league, stressing his desire to compete among top-tier clubs and players.
