Bafana Bafana head coach, Hugo Broos, has once again addressed swirling rumours linking him to the Technical Director position at Club Brugge.
The 71-year-old mentor, credited with guiding South Africa to a commendable third-place finish at the recent Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 tournament in Abidjan, finds himself amidst speculation about his future.

Reports surfaced last month suggesting that the Belgian club, under the new leadership of CEO Bob Madou, was eyeing a restructuring of its technical staff, with Broos reportedly in the mix. While the manager has been spotted attending the club’s matches, he maintains that there has been no official contact regarding the Technical Director role.
Speaking during a Zoom press conference from Algeria, Broos addressed the speculation, saying he was aware of his shortlisting.
“So, first of all, about Brugge, I only know that I’m a candidate there and, and there is nothing more or nothing less than that. So, I know that in the Belgian media, they spoke about it. But again, there is nothing for the moment, nothing at all,” said Broos, as quoted by iDiski Times.
While discussions with the European club may have occurred informally, he stressed that any potential move would require negotiations with the South African Football Association (SAFA).
As reported by SAFA, the 71-year-old has introduced ten new players into his 23-man squad for the upcoming FIFA Series friendlies this month. Three players are yet to earn caps, as most were not part of the AFCON 2023 squad.
South Africa are scheduled to compete against Andorra and Algeria in the four-team friendly event in Algeria, with matches scheduled for March 21 and 26, respectively.
