  • Kylian Mbappe is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season but hasn't signed for a new side
  • The French striker is rumoured to be headed to Real Madrid but then won't be able to play at the Olympics
  • Thierry Henry is hoping to have Mbappe represent France at the Olympics but may face some challenges

Could Kylian Mbappe still play a part at the Olympic Games in France?

If Thierry Henry has his way, the Paris Saint-Germain star would be leading the line for the national side on their home turf.

The games will take place between July 26 and August 11 in Paris, Olympics.com reported. As per the rules of the Olympics, a nation is allowed to have three players above 23, meaning Mbappe would be able to represent his country.

Speaking about the upcoming games, Henry, who is the under-21 team manager, talked about the chances of taking the forward at the games.

Mbappe is currently a PSG player but will leave the club at the end of the season. While he hasn’t yet made a decision on where he will play his football next, many expect it to be Real Madrid.

As noted by 90 MIN, Henry hopes he can convince the France captain's new club - whoever that may be - to let Mbappe play at the games.

Henry wants Mbappe at the Olympics

"I knew how difficult it was going to be. I suspected it," the French legend said about the chances of getting a club to agree to let their prized player go.
"It's the Olympics here, in France; the French clubs will be there, I think, to help. But for the foreign clubs, I suspected it. I never stopped at the first no. We will see what we can do," he added.

Making Henry's task more difficult is that the Olympics are not a FIFA-affiliated tournament, so clubs are not obligated to release players for the games.

Madrid’s stance on Olympics

Another potential hurdle for Henry in his bid to have Mbappe at the Olympics is Real Madrid’s stance on the games.

Forbes reported that Los Blancos are set to deny any of their players permission to participate at the games.

If the Spanish side were to land the Frenchman’s signature, it’s unlikely they would change their minds for Henry.

Mbappe among stars potentially at Olympic Games

French captain, Mbappe, could still be among the big-name players who could feature at this year's Olympic Games in Paris, France.

The games will take place between July 26 to August 11, and all eyes will be on the men's tournament and which stars show up.

Rules stipulate that three players over the age of 21 can be part of the squad, and Sports Brief looks at seven who could feature.
