McCarthy coached Ncube at AmaZulu. The Zimbabwean says his record as a player should be enough for him to coach the national team, per Far Post.
“It starts with what he achieved while he was wearing the Bafana Bafana jersey. He is an example of the demands and what is expected."
“Moreso, Benni is an exceptional profiler, if not the best in South Africa. Personally, I think that makes him perfect for the national."
Ncube adds that the nature of the job will make things easy for McCarthy.
“For me, that makes his job easy and it also the reason why he is the perfect candidate. Considering his patience, you can be rest assured that he will give all those that deserve a chance,” he added.
It remains to be seen if McCarthy can coach the team. South Africa's incredible performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations means Hugo Broos could stay in the role for a while, per Eurosport.
