Orlando Pirates coach, Jose Riveiro, has lauded Tshegofatso Mabaso's recent form, highlighting his vital role in the team's success.

Mabaso was on fire this past weekend, bagging a brace as the Buccaneers thumped Hungry Lions 4-0 in the Nedbank Cup.

The impressive performance added to the striker's growing tally since returning from his loan spell at Moroka Swallows.

During the post-match press conference, Riveiro expressed satisfaction with the forward’s contribution, stressing his suitability for the striker role while praising his ability to enhance the team's general gameplay.

"What I can tell you is that what we are looking for in that position, he fits well. He is a striker that can help us play better. We all know what Tshego can do in the box, his quality, his timing in the air. He is very complete, as close to the box as possible,” said Riveiro, as quoted on SNL24.

Mabaso has already netted three crucial goals for the Sea Robbers, showcasing his return to top form.

Riveiro also praises Evidence Makgopa

Riveiro had earlier commended another striker, Evidence Makgopa, for his remarkable transformation following standout performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Makgopa earned a spot in Riveiro’s starting lineup against leaders Mamelodi Sundowns when the DStv Premiership return (Premier Soccer League) resumed on Saturday, February 11.

“He was in a top continental tournament, competing with many players playing for top sides in Europe. He spent seven weeks camping with his exceptional teammates around him," said Riveiro, as quoted on Far Post.

The Soweto giants' next Premier Soccer League (PSL) clash is a trip to Sekhukhune United on 30 March.

Pirates chairman hints at stepping down

Sports Brief reported that Irvin Khoza reportedly hinted at stepping down.

South Africa's PSL could see the arrival of a new chairperson after more than two decades of Khoza at the helm of affairs.

It was gathered that the 76-year-old considered not running for the position during the November elections.
