  • Nigeria U20 national football team have crashed out of the ongoing All African Games in Ghana
  • Ladan Bosso's boys failed to progress past the group phase and they return to Nigeria without a medal
  • Their 3-2 loss to Senegal in their final group game means they finished with 3 points after 3 games

The head coach of Nigeria's Flying Eagles, Ladan Bosso, has lamented his team's performance at the football event of the ongoing All African Games in Ghana.

Bosso and his boys have crashed out of the competition following their failure to advance from the group stage.

Nigeria lost 3-2 to Senegal at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday evening in their final group match at the Games.

They had lost their opening group game 2-1 to Uganda and then managed a 1-0 win over South Sudan in their second match.

The Nigeria U20 side only needed a draw against Senegal in their last game, but their hopes were dashed as they were defeated.

It was the Flying Eagles who started the game on the front foot when Charles Agada opened the scoring as early as the 2nd minute.

Idrissa Gueye restored parity for Senegal in the 22nd minute and then grabbed his brace six minutes later.

Nigeria drew level in the 50th minute courtesy of a fine finish by Chibueze Izuogu, but Pape Diouf of the Young Lions of Teranga netted the winner for Senegal in the 65th minute to break the heart of the Nigerian side.

Reacting to their exit from the Games, Ladan Bosso told NAN, as per Punch:

“I’m disappointed because this game was the best we have played so far in this tournament.
“I didn’t have enough time to scout for players and what I did was to watch a few games in Uyo and other places. That’s where I saw the two Enyimba players, Daga and Chibueze.”

Ghana pick semi-final ticket

Sports Brief earlier reported that Ghana's U-20 football team continued their pursuit for gold in men's football at the 2023 African Games by pipping Benin in their final Group A match, sealing a spot in the semi-finals.

The Black Satellites, who came off the back of a scintillating display against the Gambia, continued their winning run with a 1-0 victory against the Young Squirrels on Friday evening.

With a spot in the last four up for grabs, both sides stepped into the ultimate group game with huge expectations, knowing a win would secure a place in the next round.
