Mohammed Kudus has had the rare honour of being compared to Diego Maradona following his stunning solo goal against Freiburg in the UEFA Europa League in midweek.

The Ghana international was in excellent form in the second leg of West Ham's Europa League round of 16 tie, scoring a goal reminiscent of Maradona's iconic 1986 FIFA World Cup goal against England.

He then grabbed his second for the evening with a powerful strike from the edge of the box as David Moyes' men punched their ticket into the last eight of Europe's second-tier competition with an emphatic 5-0 win.

Kudus compared to Diego Maradona

After the game, former West Ham United star Joe Cole was full of praise for Mo Kudus, with the latter's first goal being the talking point, Eurosport noted.

"Everyone was outstanding tonight," Cole told TNT Sports via Eurosport. "Kudus' goal is going to be shown decades down the line, what a goal that is. Goal of the season contender."

When he dribbled past most of the England team during the 1986 World Cup, the renowned Argentine maestro scored one of the greatest goals in history. Cole has now compared Kudus' effort to that of Maradona.
