FootballAfrican Games: Nigeria Knocked Out of Men’s Football Tournament After Bottling Lead
- Nigeria's U-20 men's football team were beaten by Senegal in the African Games
- The Flying Eagles suffered a 3-2 defeat and were knocked out of the tournament
- Nigeria took the lead in the game but allowed a ten-man Senegal a way back in
Nigeria's U-20 men's football team have been knocked out of the 2023 African Games after succumbing to a 3-2 defeat against Senegal on Friday evening.
Despite taking an early lead, the Flying Eagles allowed their opponents to claw back from a goal down to secure a stunning victory with ten men.
With both sides on three points after winning one and losing the other in their previous games in Group B, it came down to the wire in their ultimate group game.
And it came as no surprise when former Under-17 star Charles Agada drew first blood for Nigeria in just two minutes to set the tone for what will turn out to be a pulsating encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Young Teranga Lions, who shockingly lost to group winners Uganada in their second group game, finally got back into the game through Idrissa Gueye.
The 17-year-old, who plays for Generation Foot, fired Senegal into the lead for the first time six minutes after his equaliser, putting pressure on Nigeria.
While the first half managed to produce three goals within 30 minutes, the second stanza interestingly delivered two goals within a space of 15 minutes.
Nigeria equalise before Senegal score again
The Flying Eagles first levelled the score in the 50th minute but Senegal restored their one-goal advantage five minutes after the hour mark.
Despite going one man down in stoppage time, Senegal managed to hold on for three valuable points and, most importantly, secure passage into the next round.
Unfortunately, defeat for Nigeria means they are now out of the competition entirely after accruing just three points from three matches, conceding five goals while scoring four times in what has been an abysmal showing at the 13th edition of the African Games.

The Black Satellites beat Benin 1-0 in the tournament and booked themselves a place in the semi-final against the runner-up of Group B.
