Sunday Oliseh fears the Super Eagles are at a dangerous point and fears the team could nosedive following their success at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations where they won silver.
The Nigeria team is presently without a manager after parting ways with Jose Peseiro after the Portuguese tactician’s contract expired at the end of February.
Oliseh, who coached the Super Eagles between June 2015 to February 2016, believes Nigeria always suffers a downtrend whenever they achieve success and fears it could happen again, Soccernet reports.
“We are at a dangerous point as a football country. After my generation stopped, Nigeria stopped winning and becoming relevant. We started celebrating ‘golden bronze’. But Keshi was able to come up and make up a team that won the 2013 AFCON,” Oliseh noted.

“However, immediately after that, we did not qualify for the 2015 and 2017 AFCON. Even though in 2015, the coach, in my opinion, is still one of the top coaches that we’ve ever had. So we had a nosedive then, which is something I am afraid that may happen again, and that is something we have to fight against.”
Oliseh has entered the race to become the next Super Eagles coach after applying for the job as Nigeria continues its search for a new manager after Peseiro's departure.

Okpala noted that Nigeria has quality players to achieve this target as the country boasts of superstars like Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman playing in the top leagues around the world.
