According to the BBC, the move saw Cavallo become the first active top-flight player to come out as gay since Justin Fashanu more than three decades ago.

Recently, the midfielder took his relationship with his partner, Leighton Morrell, with the two lovebirds officially getting engaged on the pitch at Coopers Stadium.

The proposal came barely a year after the couple went public with their relationship.

Cavallo could hardly hide his happiness after their proposal, with the footie star saying via Daily Star:

"Starting this year with my fiancée. Mr and Mr coming soon. Thank you, Adelaide United, for helping set up this surprise."
Cavallo added: "It felt right to share this special moment on the pitch, where it all started."

Cavallo's football journey

The Australian player plays as a left-back and central defender for A-League side, Adelaide United.

Born in 1999, Cavallo initially started out as a tennis player before he went into professional football.

A national program scouted him as a teenager before he joined Melbourne Victory FC Youth.

In 2019, Melbourne City announced Cavallo would leave the club at the expiration of his contract, with new A-League side, Western United, snapping him up ahead of its inaugural season.

He would later in 2021 join Adelaide United. He initially joined them on a short-term deal.

Super Eagles striker gets engaged

The couple have been dating for many years before they decided to move their relationship into another chapter.

The Nigerian star is said to have met the Ghanaian beauty during his days at Midtjylland, where their story began.
