  • Arsenal qualified for the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night
  • The Gunners' qualification came a decade after an X user predicted this eventuality
  • Arsenal now join the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid to reach the QF stages

A 10-year-old tweet predicting Arsenal would qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 2024 if they signed Martin Odegaard has resurfaced.

The Gunners sealed a spot in the last eight of the European tournament on Tuesday night after edging out FC Port in the Round of 16.

Mikel Arteta's charges suffered a 1-0 defeat in the first leg of the fixture staged in Portugal. They therefore needed a positive result in the second leg at the Emirates Stadium to seal progression.

The Premier League leaders went on to secure a 1-0 win after normal and extra time, with the tie eventually decided in the penalty shootout.

Football London reports that David Raya was the match hero during the shootout, saving two of Porto's penalties as the hosts won 4-2 to qualify for the quarters for the first time in nearly 14 years.

Tweet predicts Arsenal's last eight qualification

After Arsenal's qualification, a tweet from 2014 predicting that they would qualify for the quarters in 2024 reemerged.

However, there was a caveat to it, with the X account @101greatgoals predicting that this would only happen if the Gunners signed Odegaard.

Incredibly, the north Londoners signed the midfielder in 2021 from Real Madrid on a permanent deal.

The Norwegian has gone on to form an important part of the team, rising through the ranks to become the captain.

Per SPORTbible, the Norwegia assisted the goal scored by Leandro Trossard in the first half of the Tuesday clash.

Why Odegaard left Real

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Odegaard sharing insights into his struggles during his early days at Real Madrid and shedding light on his decision to depart the club.

The midfielder expressed his contentment with the choice he made and fondly reminisced about his time with the Spanish powerhouse.
