Arteta initiated the exchange by implying in his post-match comments that Conceicao's Porto side had shown little intent to play, opting for a defensive approach.
According to GOAL, Conceicao responded by defending his team's approach, stating that they were determined to win.
This exchange set the stage for a heated second leg, where both teams vied for a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Despite maintaining composure on the touchline, Arteta's side narrowly edged out the Portuguese giants in a penalty shootout, with Leandro Trossard's late first-half goal failing to separate the teams.
Following Porto's elimination, Conceicao criticised the 41-year-old former Manchester City assistant manager for what he perceived as excessive behaviour during the match.
“Arteta turned to the bench during the game and insulted my family in Spanish,” the 49-year-old tactician said as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
He continued: “I told him that the person he insulted is no longer among us”.
“Let him worry about training his team, which has more than enough quality to play a lot better”.
