  • Otto Addo is set to be named as the new Ghana national team coach
  • The Ghana Football Association reportedly offered a long-term deal
  • Ghana are searching for a new manager after sacking Chris Hughton

The Ghana Football Association is reportedly set to announce Otto Addo as the new coach of the Black Stars following the disengagement of England coach, Chris Hughton.

The GFA began the search for a new national coach after an abysmal campaign at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where the Black Stars crashed out in the group stage.

According to Ghanaweb, Addo has reportedly been offered a long-term contract by the GFA to helm Ghana's new project after the German-based trainer scored the highest among all coaches interviewed for the position.

During his first stint with the Black Stars, the current Borussia Dortmund talent coach oversaw 12 matches, securing four victories, four draws, and four defeats before Hughton succeeded him.

Ghana hopes Addo will resurrect the national team after recent woes in global competitions, which have seen the Black Stars fall further down the ranking among the top teams in Africa and the world.

Huge responsibility for coach Addo

Meanwhile, if appointed as Ghana’s coach, Addo's first task will be to lead the Black Stars against Uganda and Nigeria in an international friendly in Morocco later this month, Ghana Soccernet reports.

The GFA and the reported new coach will use these international friendly games to ascertain the Black Stars' mettle against strong opposition and gauge its readiness for future competitions.

Addo will be expected to bring a fresh perspective and modern approach to the team's strategy and performance and also outphase the old players from the national team setup.

Ghana sack Hughton after AFCON

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ghana sacked coach Chris Hughton after the Black Stars crashed out of the Africa Cup of Nations at the group stage.

The four-time AFCON winners failed to win a single game in Ivory Coast, losing one and drawing their last two group games to get booted out eventually.

Ghana slumped to a 2-1 defeat by Cape Verde in their opening match and then drew with Egypt and Mozambique, losing out based on other results.
