Chelsea passed on the opportunity to sign Cristiano Ronaldo after he left Manchester United in 2022, and a former player has hit out at the club for the action.
Ronaldo's second spell at United ended on a sour note, and his contract was mutually terminated before the 2022 World Cup after an explosive interview with Piers Morgan.
He left Europe and joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in a mega move that has influenced other top European stars into the Middle Eastern country for massive wages.
Per Football Transfer, he was openly rejected by seven clubs, including Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, as he wanted to remain in Europe.

Gallas slams Chelsea over Ronaldo
Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has claimed the Blues made a mistake by passing on the opportunity to sign Ronaldo when he was available for the taking.
“Chelsea made a mistake by not signing Cristiano Ronaldo. He was available to sign, and Chelsea would have been a good club for him,” he told Genting Casno via Metro UK.
“Everyone knows how important Ronaldo can be in the dressing room, he brings a winning mentality, and it could have benefited the squad. It was a mistake by Chelsea.”
Todd Boehly was interested in the former Real Madrid star, but per Football London, manager Thomas Tuchel made his stance against the signing – one of the actions that got him fired.
The American billionaire tried again with Graham Potter after Tuchel was fired, but the English boss did not fancy the five-time Ballon d'Or winner either.
