Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs produced an entertaining 180th Soweto Derby this past weekend.

Buccaneers twice came from behind to beat their bitter rivals, thanks to a superb second-half performance.

South Africa coach, Hugo Broos, heaped praise on both teams for delivering a great match.

The Glamour Boys made a perfect start when they scored in the 6th minute through Ashley Du Preez. Pirates equalised in the 24th minute through Monnapule Saleng, before Du Preez added another goal to give Amakhosi the lead at the break.

In the second half, Bucs scored twice to get a vital win. Thabiso Lebitso's long-range screamer levelled matters, and then Saleng scored the winner in the 68th minute.

Trailing with 20 minutes left, Chiefs failed to mount a comeback as Pirates secured their first double over Chiefs in 15 years.

The victory saw Jose Riveiro's side move up to second in the table with 33 points from 20 matches while Chiefs are seventh with 29 points. Amakhosi face Cape Town City later this month.

Hugo Broos hails Soweto Derby

On Monday, March 11, Broos named Bafana Bafana squad for the March international break. he commented on Saturday's Soweto Derby.

"What I saw in the derby, was a very good derby. Last year, it was boring, very boring. Saturday, we saw two teams and certainly Pirates who wanted to win the derby," via iDiski Times.

Pirates will be looking to solidify second spot in the coming months. They have lost just twice in their last 12 league matches.

Broos names South Africa squad

Sports Brief earlier reported on Broos naming South Africa's squad for the March international friendlies. The Belgian tactician introduced ten new players into his 23-man squad

The 2023 AFCON bronze medalists are set to compete against Andorra and Algeria in the four-team friendly event in Algeria, with matches scheduled for March 21 and 26, respectively.
