- The NFF parted ways with Jose Peseiro after his contract expired
Former Cameroon head coach Antonio Conceicao has applied for the vacant Super Eagles job after the Nigeria Football Federation advertised the role.
Nigeria are presently searching for a new manager after parting ways with Jose Peseiro following the expiration of the Portuguese contract after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
According to Own Goal Nigeria, it is the second time Conceicao will apply to coach the Super Eagles after losing out to his close friend Peseiro the last time the position was vacant.
The 62-year-old managed Cameroon from 2019 to 2022 and guided the Indomitable Lions to third place at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations before Rigobert Song replaced him.

Conceicao eyes Cameroon job too
Meanwhile, Conceicao is not only interested in the Super Eagles job, but the ex-Portugal player is also eyeing a return to coach Cameroon again following the sacking of Rigobert Song, Afrik-Foot NG reports.
Since leaving the Cameroon position in 2022, the 62-year-old manager has been without a job and would consider a return to coaching the Indomitable Lions, who have also begun the search for a new coach.
Song guided Cameroon to the Round of 16 at the 2023 AFCON, but his performance was considered not good enough as FA boss Samuel Eto’o showed him the exit door after the competition.

FootballOkpala wants Super Eagles job
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former player Sylvanus Okpala wants the Nigeria job and has put himself forward as the prime candidate to succeed Peseiro as the Super Eagles manager.
The 1980 AFCON winner emphasised the need for the NFF to employ a local coach as opposed to giving the job to a foreigner, as he claimed he was what it takes to get the national team to start winning trophies again.
Okpala joins a growing list of retired Nigerian players, including Emmanuel Amunike, who have expressed interest in coaching the Super Eagles.
