According to Sky Sports, the iconic right-back was slammed with four and a half years in jail after he was found guilty of allegedly forcing himself into a man at a nightclub.

The incident is said to have happened on New Year's Eve in 2022, and Alves had been in custody since January 2023 when he was arrested.

The 40-year-old was handed his jail term in late February, with representatives of his legal team hinting at lodging an appeal.

Days after the sentence, a rumour sparked by a Brazilian journalist claimed that the former Paris Saint-Germain ace had taken his own life while in jail.

Alves' brother responds to death rumours

However, his brother, Ney, has shut down the rumours, taking to Instagram to issue a furious response.

“How cruel human beings can be! He’s already been convicted on the word of a woman who entered a men’s toilet to do what only he and her know," Ney said.
"He’s already been convicted. Is that not enough? Now the madness is people want him dead. They want to see my brother dead. How cruel is that!" He continued.

Sportskeeda reports that Alves' agents led by his press officer, Marcelo Bechler, have also issued a statement on the matter.

Dani Alves statue vandalised

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Dani Alves’ legacy hitting a new low after a statue in his hometown was reportedly vandalised, just days after his sentencing.

The 40-year-old’s story is that of an individual who was once idolised by millions around the world, becoming more popular for his misdeeds than his achievements on the pitch.

This was evident in his hometown of Juazeiro in Bahia, Brazil, where vandals made their feelings towards the former Barca player clear.
