Days after the sentence, a rumour sparked by a Brazilian journalist claimed that the former Paris Saint-Germain ace had taken his own life while in jail.

However, his brother, Ney, has shut down the rumours, taking to Instagram to issue a furious response.
“How cruel human beings can be! He’s already been convicted on the word of a woman who entered a men’s toilet to do what only he and her know," Ney said.
"He’s already been convicted. Is that not enough? Now the madness is people want him dead. They want to see my brother dead. How cruel is that!" He continued.

FootballDani Alves statue vandalised

The 40-year-old’s story is that of an individual who was once idolised by millions around the world, becoming more popular for his misdeeds than his achievements on the pitch.
This was evident in his hometown of Juazeiro in Bahia, Brazil, where vandals made their feelings towards the former Barca player clear.
