Former Premier League defender Sol Bamba is now free of cancer after winning the battle over Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

The 36-year-old former PSG and Leicester City star was said to have been diagnosed with the life-threatening illness last December but it was made public in January.

This led to the Ivorian undergoing series of chemotherapy sessions in a bid to find a cure and help him leave his normal life.

While confirming his victory on Twitter and reported by Sky Sports, Bamba said:

"Hey everyone, just a quick message to inform you that I'm now cancer-free! It is of course incredibly heart-warming news for my family and I, we are over the moon right now.
"I really want to thank each and everyone that has been supporting me, whether it's been with a comment, a message, a like, or whatever, that definitely gave me extra strength to go through this.
"Above all, I want to thank the family at the NHS who took such good care of me, I will always be grateful for your job.
"Thank you to all my family, my friends, and of course the club and everyone in the football industry that has helped me face this challenge. I wish you all a blessed day and hopefully will see you soon again on the pitch. Sol."

Legit.ng earlier reported that Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba has been diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing treatment.

The Bluebirds confirmed this development and have assured the 35-year-old their support in the fight to beat the Non-Hodgkin lymphoma illness.

Bamba was instrumental to Cardiff gaining promotion to the Premier League in 2018 and has featured in over a century of appearances for the club.
