The headquarters of the South African Football Association (SAFA) was raided by the Hawks in connection with missing R1.3 million.

It was gathered that the serious commercial crime investigation unit stormed the premises on Friday, March 8, in connection with allegations linked to its president Danny Jordaan.

The spokesperson of the security outfit Col Katlego Mogale said there were allegations that Jodaan used the organisation's funds for his personal gains.

It was alleged that the football administrator used his position to engage a private security company for personal protection.

Jordaan was said to have also acquired a public relations company without the authorisation of the SAFA board.

Mogale said in a statement as per Times Live:

“The president is also reported to have violated Safa statutes thus prejudicing Safa an actual loss of R1.3m.
"During the raid, a laptop, external hard drives, a USB [drive], and documents were seized."

When probed further about the next step, Mogale insisted that there was nothing more to add, referring to the statement.

She concluded that an investigation is underway to unveil the true state of things.

Julius Malema criticises Jordaan

This is coming barely one month after EFF leader Julius Malema demanded that Jordaan be removed from office, claiming that the President was disrupting and collapsing local football.

Jordaan has often been accused of being the reason why South African football has failed to hit the heights of the past but continues to be voted in as President of SAFA.

While some are saying that politics and football don’t mix, a politician is now calling for a change in the leadership of South African football.

Uncertainty around Bafana player bonuses

Sports Brief earlier reported that despite earning a substantial amount from their AFCON success, SAFA President Jordaan refrained from disclosing the exact bonus figures for the players.

Controversy had arisen before the tournament when he initially mentioned a R7 million bonus for winning the tournament. However, he later clarified that this was a misunderstanding regarding currencies.

Jordaan reiterated that the figures depended on CAF and the team's performance. He stressed the importance of the team's focus and performance.
