  • Vincent Enyeama wants to be part of Nigeria's coaching set-up
  • The legendary goalkeeper says he will bring valuable experience
  • Jose Peseiro quit his role as Nigeria's coach after his deal expired

Nigeria are looking for a coach after Jose Peseiro announced his departure from the role a week ago.

The Portuguese tactician left after his contract with the Nigerian Football Federation had expired, weeks after leading Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final.

Super Eagles legendary goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama says he wants to be part of the next coaching team.

Nigeria's next coach will be tasked with helping the country reach the 2025 AFCON and qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

The three-time AFCON champions made an unexpected run to the final of the 2023 AFCON but were defeated by hosts 2-1 on February 11, per BBC.

Despite that painful loss, Peseiro and his players were rewarded handsomely for their achievements. Many Nigerians expected the Portuguese to continue.

Several names have been linked to the role, including former players like Finidi George, Emmanuel Amuneke, and Augustine Egavoen.

Enyeama discloses coaching ambition

Enyeama is arguably Nigeria's greatest-ever goalkeeper. He had a successful career in France's top flight and made over 100 appearances for his country. he was also part of the team that won the 2013 AFCON.

The former Lille goalkeeper is waiting for the call from Nigeria. He says he could be the goalkeeping coach.

“I don’t have a problem if they wake up tomorrow and say, Vincent, come and be part of the setup- I will gladly do it. I can never say no to my country, I have always said that, via Complete Sports.
“I can never say no to Nigeria. I will bring my experience over the years in Europe, and we will do it. But they have to call me first.”

Reports have emerged that Peseiro will be handed a new deal to return and it remains to be seen if Enyeama could be part of his team.

Possible Peseiro replacements

Sports Brief earlier listed five candidates for the Nigeria role after Peseiro's exit.

Nigeria legends Emmanuel Amuneke and Finidi George are possible replacements for Peseiro. Former Gambia coach Tom Saintfiet is also a candidate for the role.

Nigeria will be looking for a coach to lead the team to the 2025 AFCON and 2026 World Cup qualifying.
