Cristiano Ronaldo joined a distinguished group of footballers in commemorating Real Madrid's 122nd anniversary on Wednesday, March 6.

The Spanish capital club is widely regarded as one of, if not the greatest football clubs in history and is considered a role model for many.

In a statement marking their 122nd year, the club wrote, "Real Madrid celebrates 122 years of existence.
"On March 6, 1902, the first Board of Directors of the Madrid Foot Ball Club was officially elected, marking the inception of the world's greatest club.
"122 years later, Real Madrid stands as a global sports icon, boasting 25 European Cups (14 in football and 11 in basketball) and the prestigious title of FIFA's Best Club of the 20th Century."

How Ronaldo wished Madrid

Amid speculation of a strained relationship between Ronaldo and Real Madrid, the Portuguese star extended congratulations to his former club, per El Futbolero.

In a caption accompanying his message, Cristiano wrote on his official X handle, "Congratulations on 122 years of history, Madridista family! Hala Madrid!"

Aside from Ronaldo, former teammates, including Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, and Pepe, also shared messages commemorating the club's momentous celebration.

Ronaldo's nine-year spell at Real

In 2009, Ronaldo completed a blockbuster £80 million transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu after a successful six-year stint at Manchester United, according to talkSPORT.

During his illustrious nine-year tenure in the Spanish capital, the forward shattered numerous club records.

He scored a remarkable 450 goals in 438 appearances, cementing his status as the club's all-time leading goalscorer, while his 128 assists placed him second on Madrid's assist charts.

Cristiano's time at Madrid was marked by an abundance of silverware, including four Champions League titles, two La Liga championships, and two Copa del Rey triumphs.

In addition, he clinched three UEFA Super Cups, three FIFA Club World Cups, and two Spanish Super Cups before embarking on a new chapter with Juventus.
