Ismael Dunga becomes first Kenyan to win Albanian Premier League

- FK Tirana won the league title with two games to spare

Former Tusker FC striker Ismael Dunga will officially go down as the first Kenyan to even win the league in the Albanian top tier.

Dunga was part of the KF Tirana side which emerged victorious in the league for the 2019/2020 season.

Tirana wrapped up their season in style on Saturday, July 18, with a fairly comfortable 2-0 win against Flamurtari at the Selman Sertasi Stadium in the capital.

Dunga did not start the Saturday game but eventually came on in the 72nd minute for Ghanaian midfielder Winful Cobbinah.

The win meant Tirana KF wrapped up the league title with two games to spare.

The club also has the chance to complete a season double in terms of silverware as they are still in the running for the domestic cup.

In the club’s 100-year history, they have won the league an impressive 25 times.

Dunga has been playing in Albania for a while and joined Tirana FK in mid-2019 from Luftetari.

His feat in the league title is quite impressive especially because a number of Kenyans have also played in Albania but have never won the title.

The likes of Francis Kahata, Musa Mohammed (Nkana FC) and Kenneth Muguna have all played for Tirana FK but have never experienced that kind of success with the club.

Dunga's club also qualified for the Champions Leage group stage qualifiers meaning there is a pretty good chance he will be playing alongside the likes of Manchester City, Barcelona , Bayern Munich and the likes next season.
