Hugo Broos has spoken about his future as South African national team coach after leading the country to a third-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast.

The Bronze medal South Africa got at the tournament was their first medal in the competition in 24 years.

The Belgian manager claimed he is not happy with some things happening with his role as Bafana Bafana coach.

In a recent interview, he recalled telling SAFA president Dr Danny Jordaan that he does not wish to continue as the country's national team coach.

The former Club Brugge coach said this in an interview on the Frank & Franky podcast, as per iDiskiTimes.

"I had a discussion with the president – on Saturday, we played the game for third place and on Sunday, we were in the hotel, and I made an arrangement with the president and said, 'Look, I would like to stop'," he said
"He was fortunate that he was sitting down; otherwise, he would have fallen over. I said, 'I do not want to encounter the criticism I received here over the last two years again'. Now, everything is good. But in March, we have a group of friendlies, and if we disappoint, it starts all over again."

The former Cameroon national team coach also shared a situation in which he was prevented from entering the Orlando Stadium on several occasions due to instructions from Pirates and league chairman Irvin Khoza.

"I told the president, I cannot work like this. I want a conversation with the league chairman," he continued.
"The chairman has promised that it will happen in the following weeks, and we will see. But the intention was to stop [with Bafana Bafana]. Before the DR Congo match, I told the staff that it might be my last game, and there was more drama then.
"We agreed with the chairman that I would not sit there for long anymore, but at the slightest sign that they would start with their daggers again, I would take my luggage and leave. We'll see what happens in the meeting with the league."

Broos went ahead to confirm he is still Bafana Bafana coach after being asked if he has quit the South African job but claimed that a few conditions needed to be met for him to agree to continue.

"No, I will continue for the time being, but there are a few conditions that need to be met," he concluded.

Broos on African teams' World Cup dream

Sports Brief earlier reported that Broos expressed pessimism about an African team winning the World Cup soon.

Morocco came close in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar but fell short in the semi-final.
